In this article we will focus on The Civilizing Process, by Norbert Elias. In general terms, Elias's work, after its rediscovery, has had many followers in different disciplinary fields. Some present more or less punctual criticisms, but betting on the permanence of his theories. Others, however, do not consider it useful as an interpretation tool. But everyone agrees on the value of his research and on his decidedly pioneering character. Therefore, Elias's thought is still valid and still arouses debate. Reference will be made below to three of them, which we have named: the “Elias-Duerr debate”, the “Goody-Goudsblom debate” and the “Schwerhoff-Spierenburg debate”.
