Abstract

Norbert Elias is one of the first sociologists who seriously set himself the task of investigating the empirical conditions that made human history possible, along with what can be salvaged from the reconstruction of these conditions for the understanding of the direction of historical development. He was one of the few thinkers of the last century who came up with a synthetic vision of the human being in this sense. This article analyses documentary evidence hitherto little discussed, which helps to shed light on the way in which the sociologist approached this problem between 1950 and 1951 in his social psychology classes in London.
